2006 in Review

The Witness & Mission Committee reached out to our community and the world in many ways last year.  Contributions from our budget were made to Habitat for Humanity, Burnamwood, Buckhorn Children’s Foundation, Bellewood Home, Louisville Seminary, Woodford County Farmers’ Market, Woodford County Repair Affair and the Woodford County Ministerial Association.  We provide two scholarships to Versailles Presbyterian Preschool to children who could otherwise not afford to attend.

In February we remembered some of our senior VPC members with Valentines. At Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas we served families in our community with Food Baskets.  When school started in August, we helped some families with school supplies and food baskets. In July we had an Independence Day program for the Residents at Taylor Manor. Our committee also pays our “Per Capita” to the Presbytery and supports the General Missions of the Presbytery.

We continued the exciting international mission work of Living Waters for the World.  In March, Linder Jaeckles, Kevin Patsy and Melissa Sevier went to “Clean Water U” to learn how to set-up clean water equipment.  In June, a small group traveled to Miguel Colorado in Mexico to establish a partnership with the church and community.  In November, a mission team returned to Miguel Colorado to install the clean water equipment.  A follow-up trip is planned for the summer of 2007.

Looking Toward the Future

1)     Devote more resources to Outreach Programs:
We will try to increase budget yearly so that eventually 10% of income will be directed to mission.  In an effort to increase congregational participation, we will start a monthly article in the Beacon about current outreach opportunities.

2)     Add to Diversity of Outreach Programs:
We would like to specifically reach out to our Hispanic neighbors in the community.  We are trying to determine who would be a good contact person to help us find out what the community
s needs are.

3)     Increase Participation in Living Waters:

Give the whole congregation ownership in this mission by giving frequent updates with pictures etc., so that we can get to know our partners in Miguel Colorado. Involve children and youth in collecting money and materials that are needed.

4)     More Mission Trips:

Mission trips are not just for the youth.  We are in the process of scheduling and adult mission trip to Mississippi.  Also Living Waters will be an on-going mission.
